Product Overview
The CM2 product family comprises the CM2 digital towfish, STR topside transceiver unit, MaxView acquisition software and a choice of kevlar or stainless steel armoured tow cables.
CM2 Towfish
The CM2 towfish incorporates dual frequency operation, with a choice of two configurations, DF (100/325kHz) and EDF (325/780kHz).
- Digitally controlled dynamically-optimised gain profile
- Automatic towfish altitude measurement
- Seabed proximity alarm
- Breakaway mechanism with a safety link
- Adjustable depression angle for the transducers
- Water temperature sensor
CM2 Acquisition Hardware
The Sonar Transceiver (STR) interfaces the towfish to an external data acquisition computer via a USB link. It makes the sonar appear to the computer as a USB peripheral and also powers the towfish. The STR integrates seamlessly with C-MAX's MaxView acquisition software or can also be used with acquisition software from other leading manufacturers. The C-Shell provides a rugged, waterproof enclosure for the STR. This enclosure is ideal for open boat use and is available with an integrated GPS.
CM2 Cables and Winches
The CM2's telemetry is so versatile that it can handle coaxial or twisted pair cables from 50m up to 6000m long. CM2 tow cables carry both power and signal on a single pair of conductors enabling both coaxial or twisted pair cables to be used with no user modifications required when switching cable types.
C-MAX can supply a range of winches and cables from 50m kevlar armoured coax suitable for shallow water surveys to 1000m of steel armoured twisted pair on an electric winch.
- Only 47kg with 300m of cable
- All stainless steel construction
- Maintenance free, fully sealed low-noise sliprings
- Built in overload clutch
- Soft-start feature gives smooth cable handling
CM2 Accessories
The CM2 Wing Depressor is an optional towfish attachment. It provides extra downforce to combat the drag of the tow cable, allowing the towfish to run deeper.
The advantage of using a C-MAX Counting Pulley is that the amount of tow cable paid out is continuously displayed to the sonar operator. This allows the operator to make estimates of layback (the horizontal distance of the fish behind the navigation reference point), to assess the vulnerability of the towfish to changes in ship speed, and to monitor the operation of the winch if it is being controlled by a deck crew.
The Pole Mount allows the attachment of the towfish to a 50mm (2 inch) diameter pole for overside deployment in shallow water depths and is of stainless steel construction.
A purpose-designed clamshell transit case is available for both the CM2 Towfish and the DeepTow. Cases are also available for the CM2 Winch, Wing Depressor and STR.
